Mission Statement

Our Mission is to follow Jesus with everything we’ve got, and to inspire others to do the same.

We believe that the mission of every church is to fulfil the Great Commission of Jesus:

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:16-20

So, our mission statement is…

To follow Jesus with everything we’ve got, and inspire others to do the same.

As individuals

Following Jesus is something we can do individually as we live and work among our friends, neighbours, colleagues and family members.

Wherever we go, we are to work at becoming more and more mindful that Jesus is with us and he’s got a perfect way for us to follow him and walk with him in every moment.

This simple act of following Jesus in our daily life will inspire others to do the same. They may begin to ask questions about your life, or make observations.

Some may even ridicule you or make fun of you for following Jesus with all that you are. But that’s OK – Jesus said that would happen! We are supposed to stand out from the crowd, and not everybody’s going to like it. But often, those who are most resistant to your Christian lifestyle are the ones who are closer to turning to Christ than we think.

Following Jesus in our current day and age is not easy. Many values that are God-centred and rooted in the bible fly in the face of non-Christian thinking. That’s one reason why becoming a member of a whole-hearted church is so important. You are not alone in your faith! Join with others…

Corporately

We can do so much more to follow Jesus with all that we’ve got when we work together. Right from the start, Jesus called 12 disciples, not just one prodigy. He taught them how to work for him and live in community. They followed him with all that they had, leaving behind livelihoods in order to come together.

At BCC we believe that no one is an island. Together we can be encouraged in our walk with Jesus and work together on bigger projects as he leads us together by his Spirit.

As we stand shoulder to shoulder we can move forward together and, as our mission statement says, inspire others to do the same.

Inspiring others

You may not feel like your life is much of an inspiration to other people. But as you worship him daily and seek him in his word, you’ll be surprised at how people see God’s presence in you. You don’t have to put it on or try too hard with people – just stay close to Jesus.

So the first half of the mission statement – to follow Jesus with all you’ve got – is the main action point on our agenda. The ‘inspiring others’ bit comes automatically after that.

In fact, you may be interested to know that the very word, ‘inspire’ comes from two words meaning ‘to breathe into’. What’s more, the word for ‘breathe’ also means ‘spirit’. Let’s draw near to Jesus every day, asking his divine Spirit to inspire us, or ‘in-Spirit’ us so that our very lives exude his the presence of the Holy Spirit.
